FUSION Pottery and Glass Show: Change of Venue and Date
Given the possibility of a fall federal election, space could not be
guaranteed for the FUSION Pottery and Glass Show at the CBC
Building in downtown Toronto. This is the second time in four years
that FUSION has faced the possibility of needing to cancel our show
and sale. After an extensive search for a new, affordable venue in the
Toronto area, space has been obtained at the CNIB Building at
1929 Bayview Avenue in Toronto.
Unfortunately, the traditional dates for our show were not available;
therefore, the show and sale dates for this year have been changed to
Thursday, October 30 through Sunday, November 2. In 2009, the
show and sale will be again held at the CNIB Building, however, the
dates will return to the week following Thanksgiving.
This change of date has, unfortunately, meant that, some of our
members will now be unable to participate in this year's show and
sale. As a result, some spaces have become available for anyone who is
interested in participating in the show. If you took part in the 2007
sale, you are automatically eligible for our 2008 sale. If you did
not take part last year, the opportunity is now here for you to
participate. All first time applicants will be required to submit
slides of their work which will be reviewed by an independent juror
prior to their acceptance.
I can tell you that the new location is an excellent one. The CNIB
Building sits beside a very large condominium development, is close to
the Sunnybrook Health Centre complex and is also near the Granite
Club, as well as a number of other large complexes. The CNIB facility,
itself, has 300 employees plus many volunteers. As the building was
designed to support easy access for the visually-impaired, it offers
easy access for unloading and loading your wares. Public transit is
readily available on Bayview Avenue and free surface parking is
available as well as underground parking at $6.50 per day.
The area that we will be using has plenty of natural light and there
is an on-site cafeteria with which we are in negotiations. We would
like to have food available on all days of the show.
Changing locations brings challenges, but also new opportunities and
we are very excited about the potential of this new location. The CNIB
Marketing Manager and the Conference Manager have offered to assist us
with publicity to promote our show and sale. Numerous advertising and
marketing ideas are being developed.
At present, tentative plans include an Opening Reception Thursday at
noon, mailings by CNIB to their corporate sponsors, media coverage,
Canada Post residential delivery of flyers to specific postal codes,
invitations to interior designers, possible displays in local
libraries and hospitals, and contact with local associations.
A Call for Entry is available by clicking
here. Any questions should be directed, by email, to Vickie
Salinas at
vickiesalinas@rogers.com or by phone at (613) 226-1939. Please
consider applying for this year's fall show and sale as it promises to
be a very exciting one!
